Join Brooklyn Public Library’s Services for Older Adults Department in partnership with Brooklyn Community Pride Center as we celebrate James Baldwin the writer, the warrior, and the activist who is still influencing the LGBTQ+ community and still inspiring Black Lives Matter!
Brooklyn poet and Baldwin scholar JP Howard will facilitate community conversations on Baldwin through readings and spoken word. Musical. interludes will be provided by the melodious stylings of Maria Rios-Tatum and Lynnette Tatum-Rios.

JP Howard is an educator, literary activist, curator and community builder. Her debut poetry collection, SAY/MIRROR, was a Lambda Literary finalist. She is also the author of bury your love poems here (Belladonna*) and co-edited Sinister Wisdom Journal Black Lesbians — We Are the Revolution! JP has received fellowships from Cave Canem, VONA, and Lambda Literary and curates Women Writers in Bloom Poetry Salon, a NY-based monthly literary series. JP has facilitated community discussions and/or writing workshops on James Baldwin for Brooklyn Community Pride Center, The Hobart Festival of Women Writers, and in collaboration with Apogee Journal and New York Writers Coalition’s Writing Resistance Series.
