Join physician Jose Garcia for a weekly discussion and support group around equality in healthcare. The goal of this group is to create a safe space to foster knowledge and impart empowerment to the LGBTQ+ community in the healthcare setting. Some of the topics that will be addressed are:

Advocating for yourself in a clinical setting (Your primary care provider’s office, the operating room, the emergency room)

Clinical resources (healthcare advocates/social workers/patient relations administrators)

How to approach routine health maintenance (vaccinations, STD prevention and testing, mammogram, colonoscopy)

Encountering acism, homophobia, misogyny, islamophobia, antisemitism, etc. in a healthcare setting

Stigmatization of and support for drug use/abuse

Stigmatization of and support for those with HIV/AIDS

How to manage unforeseen emergencies

Insurance and medical billing

Outpatient Mental Health Care maintenance (medication regimen, peer support, psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists)

Inpatient mental Healthcare (psychiatric wards/hospitals, inpatient care teams, pervasive stigmatization, gaslighting, and emotional abuse
