New York Attorney General Letitia James — leading a coalition of 29 national, state, and local advocacy groups — called on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch a federal investigation into Texas Governor Gregg Abbott’s recent directive to treat gender-affirming care for transgender children as child abuse. In their letter to DOJ’s Civil Rights division, Attorney General James and the coalition argue that the order, implemented last month, is discriminatory, potentially unlawful, and does untold harm to trans youth in Texas. The blood preserved in the resin panels of Jordan Eagles’ art could have been used to save the lives of New Yorkers in need, during what is currently the biggest blood shortage the country has faced in over a generation. That is what Eagles wants people to understand with his latest immersive light-based installation, Our Blood Can Save, opening Friday March 4 at the Major R. BK Art Exhibit Made With Blood Confronts Ban On LGBTQ Donors.

An art exhibit featuring the blood of LGBTQ people restricted from donating despite a national blood shortage is headed to Crown Heights. The art installation — featuring blood preserved in resin panels — will debut Friday at the Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Center, which opened last year in the former Bedford Union Armory. A blood drive hosted by the New York Blood Center will happen alongside the event in the Brooklyn Pride Community Pride Center’s headquarters at the building. Read article at Patch

The Brooklyn Ghost Project, a non-profit dedicated to supporting trans and non-binary people of color in New York City, hosted a Grinch-themed holiday party on January 12 after the original event was postponed amid the emergence of the Omicron variant. Food, raffle tickets, gifts, and, yes, the Grinch — but not his dog, Max — highlighted the holiday party at the Brooklyn Community Pride Center’s space at 1360 Fulton Street.
